James Boyle, Director of Associate Recruiting at Latham & Watkins, leads the firm’s innovative recruiting strategy for associates across all practice offices.


Under James’ leadership of the function since 2019, Latham has transformed its entry-level recruiting program, one of the largest in the industry. He has driven a cohesive global strategy, resulting in significant improvements in the firm’s diversity metrics, expanding the reach of universities from which the firm recruits, and retaining exceptional talent. As a trusted advisor to Latham’s global recruiting chairs, he has developed pre-law programs that benefit the firm and the profession at large by providing open-access educational resources to law students globally.


James draws on an extensive career in talent acquisition, including as Global Head of Campus Recruiting at Barclays Investment Bank as well as nearly a decade at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the UK and the US advising on the acquisition and integration of Booz & Company in 2014.


Deeply committed to community service, diversity and mentorship, James has served on the wellbeing and change management task forces for the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), as a Trustee on the board of The UK Scout Association, as a mentor for students at Northumbria University, and as a FinTech startup advisor for RISE (a Barclays FinTech accelerator). Additionally, he has volunteered with The Posse Foundation and New York Cares.


James holds a BA (Hons.) in Human Resource Management from Northumbria University in the UK. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD) in the UK and holds a Senior Professional in HR Certification (SPHR) in the US.
